En bref
Prince Caspian is a young Telmarine prince, part of a race of conquerors who have ruled Narnia for centuries and silenced the talking beasts, trees, and dwarfs. An orphan, he grows up in the castle of his uncle, King Miraz. He is forbidden from believing in the "old stories." His nurse and tutor secretly tell him about the Golden Age of the Pevensie children. His life changes when he learns the truth about his uncle.

Personality
Caspian is generous, enthusiastic, and sometimes naive. He is brave, but also impulsive and capable of anger when he feels challenged. He learns throughout his life that being a king means serving others rather than pursuing his own dreams.
Look and analysis
Caspian embodies the reconciliation of two peoples : a descendant of conquerors who chooses to restore Narnia to its true nature. One can read in this a reflection on heritage, the responsibilities of descendants, and the historical truth that is taught—or hidden—from children.
Relations
- Miraz : the usurping uncle who wants to eliminate him.
- Doctor Cornelius : his half-dwarf tutor who reveals the old Narnia to him.
- Puddleglum, Mr Tumnus, Reepicheep : his early loyal companions.
- Ramandu’s daughter : his wife. Rilian : their son.
- Destrier : his horse, non-speaking, on which he flees the castle.
Name
The name evokes the Caspian Sea. Caspian X is the tenth of the Telmarine dynasty of that name.
Trivia
- He worries about being descended from pirates. Aslan replies that he is also descended from Lord Adam and Lady Eve : enough to keep his head high and his shoulders straight.
Trivia
Ben Barnes played Caspian in the 2008 and 2010 films, with an accent inspired by Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride (according to his own statements).

The story
Prince Caspian
When Miraz has a son, Doctor Cornelius reveals to Caspian that his uncle murdered his father to take the throne and that Caspian is now in danger. Caspian flees. He is taken in by the badger Mr Tumnus, and the dwarfs Puddleglum and Nikabrik, and joins the Old Narnians hidden in the woods. Cornered, he blows Queen Susan’s horn. The horn summons the Pevensie children, and Aslan awakens the ancient forces of Narnia. Caspian becomes King Caspian X and restores speech and freedom to the Old Narnians.
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Three years later, Caspian sets sail eastward. He seeks the seven lords loyal to his father whom Miraz had banished. He frees the Lone Islands from slavery and faces storms, a dragon, and the Dreamer’s Island. He meets Ramandu’s daughter, whom he marries. Tempted to abandon everything to sail to the World’s End, he must accept that he must remain king.
The Silver Chair
As an old man, he has lost his wife and his son Rilian. He sets out to sea to seek Aslan and returns to die. In Aslan’s country, he is restored to youth and even briefly appears in our world to set things right in the school of Jill and Eustace.
In the books
He is a rebellious adolescent prince (Prince Caspian), a sailing king (The Voyage of the Dawn Treader), and an old man who returns to die in Narnia (The Silver Chair). In Aslan’s country, a drop of Aslan’s blood restores him to life and youth. He finally appears among the kings in The Last Battle.

Prince Caspian X
# In Brief
Caspian is the rightful king of Narnia during the time when the New Narnians, who originally came from Telmar, rule the land. His father, King Caspian IX, was murdered by his own brother, Miraz, who then declared himself king. Caspian’s nurse and tutor, Doctor Cornelius, secretly taught Caspian about Narnia’s past, and to protect him, Doctor Cornelius sent him away from the kingdom. Treated as a friend by the Old Narnians and aided by Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, Caspian defeated his enemies and became King Caspian X. He was later called Caspian the Navigator after his voyages to the end of the world. He earned the titles of Lord of Cair Paravel, Knight of the Order of the Lion, and Emperor of the Lone Islands. He died and went to Aslan’s Country, where he was able to come back to Earth to help Jill and Eustace.
Quote
* - Welcome, Prince, said Aslan. Do you feel yourself able to take up the kingship of Narnia ?
- I... I don’t think I can, Sir, he replied. I’m only a kid.
- Well, said Aslan. If you had felt yourself able, that would have been a proof that you were not.
