Le lieu
Archenland extends into the mountains and valleys south of Narnia, down to the Great Desert that separates it from Calormen. It was founded by Col, the second son of King Frank V of Narnia, who settled there with a few companions. Its kings are therefore descendants of Frank, like those of Narnia, and the two countries have always remained allies.

Ce qui s’y passe (révèle l’intrigue)
The country is the main setting at the end of The Horse and His Boy. Shasta runs to warn King Lune of Rabadash’s attack on Anvard and discovers that he is the crown prince. The local legend of King Olvin, who defeated the giant Pire turned into a mountain, explains the landscape of the country.
Archenland appears in the background in other books : the southern horizon for the Narnians and allied troops in The Last Battle.
The kingdom was founded in the year 180 by Prince Col, the youngest son of King Frank V of Narnia. He is therefore related to Narnia by blood. A land of hills and pine forests, it is crossed by fertile valleys. It guards Narnia from the South, facing the desert and Calormen. Its kings have always been loyal friends of the rulers of Cair Paravel. Olvin, Lune, Cor, and Ram the Great are among its most famous kings.

- The name is sometimes explained by a play on *arch* (first) or *arches* of the mountains ; Lewis did not comment on it.
- Lewis implies that the kings of Archenland descend from Frank and Helen, as do those of Narnia.
- The name evokes the "arch" of the mountains that separate it from Narnia.

Archenland
It is a kingdom located to the south of Narnia and is on very good terms with the latter. It is separated from the south and the Empire of Calormen by the Great Desert.
The Archenlanders live a life of mountain dwellers. They love deep forests and hunting. They have always been on good terms with Narnia and with the Calormenes. Due to a spell, the women of this country almost always have twins (Cor and Corin).
