Rabadash attempts to take it by surprise with two hundred horsemen. Thanks to Shasta’s warning, the small Narnian garrison resists, and then reinforcements arrive from Edmund and Lucy. Rabadash is left hanging by his chainmail from a hook on the wall, humiliated.
It is at Anvard that Shasta learns he is Cor, the long-lost prince and son of Lune.
Anvard is an ancient castle, built of reddish-brown stone, on top of a wooded pass. It has many battlements and tall towers. It guards the main road between the desert and Narnia. It is the seat of the kings of Archenland since Calormen, and the heart of the kingdom. Its gates held out against Rabadash until the Narnian reinforcements arrived.
