En bref
The Lord Bar was the Grand Vizier of King Lune. King Lune discovered that he was embezzling money and informing Calormen, and he banished him without further punishment.
Insight and analysis
As often in fairy tales, the attempt to prevent a prophecy is precisely what brings it about : without the kidnapping, Shasta would never have crossed the desert to warn Anvard.

What we learn
When a centaur prophesies that Prince Cor will one day save Archenland, Bar kidnaps the child, presumably to deliver him to the Tisroc. Bar is pursued at sea and caught. During the battle, a loyal knight places the baby in a boat, which drifts away. Cor is believed to be lost. The boat washes up on the shore of Calormen, where the fisherman Arsheesh finds the baby. Lune tells this story at the end of the book.
