En bref
Olvin belongs to the legend of Archenland. In the year 407, he fought the giant Pire, a two-headed giant who threatened the country, and turned him to stone. The petrified body became the Mount Pire, the mountain with two peaks that overlooks the kingdom. This feat earned him the hand of Lady Liln in marriage.
View and analysis
Lewis gives his countries historical depth through these sung legends, in the manner of medieval chronicles. The two-headed giant who is turned to stone and becomes a mountain is a motif from folklore, known in Scandinavia and the British Isles.
