Le lieu
Narnia is first a small country : a wooded valley crossed by the Great River, which flows from the Western Mountains down to the Eastern Sea. To the south, the mountains separate it from Archenland. To the north, the Shribble River marks the border with the Ettins’ Country and the Giants’ lands. To the east, Cair Paravel overlooks the estuary. The Lamp-post Wood, the Stone Table, Beruna Ford, and the Dancing Lawn make up the geography of the heart of the country.

Ce qui s’y passe (révèle l’intrigue)
The name refers to both the country and the entire world that surrounds it (see the "World of Narnia" page). Lewis would have found the word in an ancient atlas : Narnia is the Latin name of Narni, a small town in Umbria. This little nod has been the subject of two articles on the old site.
The story spans about 2,555 Narnian years. Creation takes place in year 1, followed by the reign of Frank and Helen which brings nearly nine centuries of peace. Then comes the Long Winter under the White Witch, the Golden Age of the four Pevensies, the Telmarine conquest, the restoration under Caspian X, and finally the decline and end under Tirian. Throughout these centuries, Narnia remains the country where beasts talk, where trees have souls, and where Aslan comes "when he pleases".
Narnia is a small country of forests, hills and rivers. It stretches from the Lamp-post Land, in the west, to the Eastern Sea. To the north, the Shribble River borders it, and to the south, the mountains of Archenland. Aslan created it to be the land of talking beasts, ruled by the sons of Adam. It knows fifteen centuries of kings, one century of winter, several invasions and an end.

The world longed for by humans. Whether desired or hated, it will be the prey of many wars. Many kings will defend it… at their peril. Others, knowing how to use dark magic, will try to seize it. Aslan, the great Emperor of that world, will fortunately be there. But will Narnia escape its end ? The land stretches from the Lantern Waste, in the west, to Cair Paravel, in the east.
