The story
The Magician’s Nephew
The White Witch once seizes Fledge to spread panic in London. He is taken with her, Frank, Digory Kirke, Polly Plummer, and Uncle Andrew into the Wood between the Worlds, and then to Narnia at its creation. In the fresh air of this new world, he revives, grows younger, and happily grazes on the grass. Aslan gives speech to certain animals, and Fledge is among them : he vaguely remembers London as a bad dream. When Aslan sends Digory to fetch an apple from a distant garden, he asks Fledge if he would agree to be the father of all winged horses. The horse grows enormous copper-coloured wings and is renamed Fledge ("Plume"). He carries the two children over the mountains to the garden of the West and brings them back.

Fledge
Frank’s loyal horse is an integral part of his life. Upon returning to Narnia, he will find his origins and become, as it were, mythical ! Thanks to Aslan, he became the first winged horse and was then named Fledge.
Presentation in the book
*"The horse, for his part, had his ears pricked, shivering and neighing as he stamped his foot steadily. He was no longer like a cab horse, he had recovered all the bearing of one whose father had taken part in the greatest battles."* (The Magician’s Nephew, p.117)
