Histoire et rôle dans les Chroniques (révèle l’intrigue)
The Magician’s Nephew reveals its origin. Digory planted the core of the silver apple in his garden in London. The tree, struck by a storm, was turned into a wardrobe by Digory when he grew up, who kept a little of Narnia’s magic.
The wardrobe does not always work : Lewis warns that one cannot enter Narnia voluntarily by the same path. At the end of The Lion, the adult kings and queens come out again, having become children once more.
The wardrobe was made by Digory, now grown up, from the wood of an apple tree grown from the core of the apple that healed his mother. When a storm knocked down the tree, Digory couldn’t bring himself to burn it. The wardrobe doesn’t always lead to Narnia : it only opens when Narnia allows it.
