Le lieu

The house is located in the countryside, far from London, miles away from the train station and any post office. It is huge, full of corridors, staircases, and unexpected rooms : a library, a green room, an empty room containing only a large wardrobe.

Ce qui s’y passe (révèle l’intrigue)

Visitors know it : it is such an old and famous house that the housekeeper, Mrs. Macready, organizes tours. The children must avoid the tourists, and it is while fleeing a group of them that all four enter the wardrobe.

According to The Last Battle, the house was sold after the Professor’s financial troubles. The old site had an article about it (no. 499).

The house of Professor Kirke is a vast country estate, ten miles from the nearest train station and two miles from the first post office. It is so famous that tourists come to visit it. It has countless rooms and an empty spare room where there is only a large wardrobe.

Professor's House

Located outside London, it was here that the children took refuge during the air raids and from where their adventures in Narnia began. This house belongs to Professor Digory Kirke, who became a prominent scholar. It is an old house filled with mysterious and distant objects. Incredible legends circulate about it, and guided tours are organized by Mrs. Macready. Later, it was sold because the professor had financial troubles.
