Why mention them?
These few names evoke a large English house from 1940, with its staff. They also remind us that Digory, now old, lives a comfortable life in the house he inherited, and that he welcomes children evacuated from London, as many homeowners did during the war. Lewis himself housed evacuated schoolgirls in his home at The Kilns, near Oxford, from 1939.
