En bref
To rid himself of the friends of his murdered brother, Miraz sent seven noble Lords to explore the unknown eastern seas. None of them returned. Once king, Caspian X swears to find them : that is the official purpose of the voyage of the Dawn Treader.
View and analysis
Each Lord faces a different trial, almost a parable. One finds domestic life, another greed (gold), another fear (nightmares), others discord. The quest of the seven Lords gives the book its structure as an archipelago, island by island, like Homer’s Odyssey or the voyages of St Brendan.

Son histoire dans les livres (révèle l’intrigue)
The fate of each
- Bern : he settled on the Lone Islands, in Narrowhaven, and married there. It is he who buys Caspian at the market without knowing who he is, then helps him regain power. Caspian makes him Duke of the Lone Islands.
- Octesian : his bracelet is found on Dragon Island. He was likely killed by the dragon, or perhaps he was the dragon himself.
- Restimar : turned into a gold statue in the pool on Deathwater Island, which turns anything plunged into it into gold.
- Rhoop : he spent years prisoner on the Dark Island, where nightmares come true. The ship rescues him.
- Argoz, Mavramorn and Revilian : they sleep in enchanted sleep at Aslan’s Table on Ramandu’s Island, after quarreling and seizing the stone knife. They wake when Caspian sails to the World’s End. Rhoop joins them to sleep in peace at last.
