En bref

Collective sheet. Glozelle and Sopespian are part of Miraz’s military entourage. They were humiliated by him and long for his downfall.

Insight and analysis

These two traitors illustrate what becomes of a court founded on fear : no one is loyal. The scene evokes Shakespearean court tragedies, which Lewis taught.

Son histoire dans les livres (révèle l’intrigue)

In the book

When Peter challenges Miraz to single combat, the two lords flatter his pride to get him to accept, hoping he will be killed. During the duel, Miraz stumbles ; they cry foul, rush in and kill him themselves, then launch the Telmarine army into battle. Sopespian is killed by Peter in the fray ; Glozelle then disappears from the story (depending on the edition, he is killed or flees).
