En bref
Aslan is the son of the Emperor-Over-the-Sea. He is never seen or heard in Narnia, but it is known that he reigns “beyond the sea” and that his decrees govern all, including the White Witch.
Insight and analysis
In the Christian reading that Lewis lets peek through, the Emperor corresponds to God the Father, and Aslan to the Son. Lewis deliberately keeps him in the shadows. There are no scenes, no dialogue : only a law, and the love of a son who fulfills it. This character can also be read more broadly as the symbol of a moral order that precedes all and is not invented by anyone.

Son histoire dans les livres (révèle l’intrigue)
In the books
In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the Witch invokes the Deep Magic from before the dawn of time that the Emperor inscribed on the Stone Table and on his scepter : that every traitor belongs to him. Aslan does not dispute this law : he respects it and gives his life in Edmund’s place. It is later discovered that a deeper Magic, which came from before the beginning of time, reverses death itself. The Narnians often swear “by the Emperor,” and his name appears throughout the books as the ultimate reference.
