En bref
Jewel is a unicorn from Narnia and the best friend of King Tirian. They consider themselves brothers. He is gentle with his friends and formidable in battle. He speaks nobly, sometimes with a touch of solemnity, and is never fooled by the false Aslan.
« I am finally home. This is the land I have sought all my life, without knowing it until now. »
I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now.
— Jewel, *The Last Battle*, ch. 15

The story
At the beginning of The Last Battle, Jewel and Tirian learn that the dryads of the Lantern Waste are being cut down “on Aslan’s orders.” Indignant, they kill two Calormenes and are taken prisoner, ashamed of having struck unarmed men. Tirian is tied to a tree, and Jewel is led away captive. Released by Jill, he reunites with his king and fights with him at the Hill of the Stable. Captured for a time, he is sentenced to become a beast of burden. He is eventually pushed through the door of the Stable, where he discovers the land of Aslan. He speaks to his friends of the happy days in Narnia’s history, such as the reign of Queen Lucy, and then leaps “higher and further” in joy.
