En bref
Ahoshta is a common man who rose to the rank of Tarkaan through flattery and scheming. Upon the death of Aslan, the former Grand Vizier, the Tisroc appointed him in his place. He is in his sixties, with a hunched back and, according to Aravis, a monkey-like face.
Look and analysis
Ahoshta is a caricature of the courtier. Lewis uses him to show the servility of absolute power. He also serves as a motif for Aravis’s refusal : her courage consists in preferring the unknown to a life of luxury and servitude.

In the book
Aravis’s stepmother arranged her marriage to him to get rid of her. It is to escape this union that Aravis flees. At the palace, he is seen groveling before the Tisroc, receiving kicks from Rabadash, and giving cautious advice by spouting proverbs and flattery.
