Le lieu
Calormen is a vast, hot, and populous empire that stretches south of the Great Desert. According to Lewis’s chronology, it was founded around the year 204 by outlaws from Archenland, who gradually conquered the South. It is ruled by an absolute sovereign, the Tisroc ("may he live forever"), surrounded by a warrior nobility, the Tarkaans and Tarkheenas.

Ce qui s’y passe (révèle l’intrigue)
The Calormenes take pride in their storytelling, their sententious poetry, and their proverbs. The old site listed many cities and provinces : Calavar, Ilkeen, Mezreel and its Valley of the Thousand Perfumes, Teebeth, Zalindreh, Tehishbaan (the city of Emeth), Pugrahan, or the flamboyant mountain of Lagour. The worship of Tash, Azaroth, and Zardeenah reigns there.
Calormen has long coveted green Narnia. It attempts to conquer Archenland in The Horse and His Boy and takes over Narnia in The Last Battle. Lewis does not make it a people of villains : Aravis and Emeth come from there.
The empire of Calormen was founded in 204 by outlaws from Archenland. It extends as far as Telmar. It is a hot, cultivated, and urban country, with roads and aqueducts. Its society is highly stratified : the Tisroc, the Tarkaans and Tarkheenas, then the slaves. Eloquence, proverbs, and tales are highly prized. The official god is Tash. Calormen covets Narnia throughout the story.
