Each major river in Narnia has its own god, often bearded and crowned with reeds, and its naiads.

Le Prince Caspian
The River god appears at the end of Prince Caspian : a bearded figure crowned with reeds who emerges from the waters. He asks Aslan to free him from his chains—that is, the bridge. Bacchus frees him : the bridge collapses, and the god is restored to freedom. Lewis thus incorporates the pagan nature deities into Narnia, who are subject to Aslan.
