Talking beasts
The dumb beasts (ordinary animals)
Non-speaking animals
- Nom original
- Dumb beasts

At the moment of creation, Aslan chooses certain animals to give them the gift of speech.
Ce qui leur arrive dans les livres
Le Neveu du magicien, Le Lion, la Sorcière blanche et l'Armoire magique, Le Prince Caspian, La Dernière Bataille
In creation, Aslan does not give speech to all animals. Those who are not chosen remain mute beasts, as in our world. They can be hunted and eaten, unlike talking beasts. Aslan warns that talking beasts who behave badly can become mute again. This is what happens to the Cat. In Prince Caspian, Lucy worries about seeing a bear without speech : have the Narnians forgotten to speak ? Under the Telmarines, some talking beasts have become wild.
The others remain ordinary, silent beasts that can be hunted and eaten. A talking beast that behaves badly can become mute again.
Speaking of Talking Beasts.
