The night of Aslan’s death, field mice come to gnaw the cords binding his body. According to Prince Caspian, their descendants become talking mice, larger than the others, in gratitude for this deed. They form a small company of knights, led by Reepicheep, with his lieutenant Pripicik. When Reepicheep loses his tail in battle, his companions are ready to cut off their own in solidarity, and Aslan restores it to him. The mice represent the image of courage in smallness and gratitude.

Their leader is Reepicheep, a knight and duelist.
