En bref

In mythology, Silenus is the tutor and companion of Dionysus-Bacchus, an old, wise man who is often drunk. Lewis adopts this character, emphasizing the comedic aspect : he is fat, always on the verge of falling off his donkey, and shouting for someone to bring him a drink.

In the books

He is mentioned by Mr Tumnus in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, then appears at the grand feast in Prince Caspian, alongside Bacchus and the Maenads. The old website rightly noted that Lewis does not make him a teacher, unlike in mythology : he is only there for the joy.
