In the book

When Jill, Eustace, and Puddleglum fall into a crevasse beneath the City of the ancient giants, Mullugutherum and his company capture them. They repeat grimly that “many go down, few come up.” He leads them through vast caverns where creatures sleep, then across the Sea without Sun, to the castle. Prince Caspian’s son Rilian, then ensorcelled, demands to meet the prisoners.
