While exploring a house they think is empty, the children accidentally enter Uncle Andrew’s study. It’s there that he shows them the magic rings, and Polly disappears after touching a yellow ring.

The house becomes the scene of comic and frightening events when the White Witch arrives. Aunt Letty stands up to the queen, and Uncle Andrew tries to impress her. It is also where Mabel Kirke’s room is located, which is healed by the apple of youth.

It is a terraced house in a row in London. Digory lives there with his sick mother, his Uncle Andrew, and Aunt Letty. A long attic connects the whole row under the roofs. The uncle’s secret study is at the top of the house.
