Le lieu

The Experimental House is a mixed, "modern" school where no one is punished and students are studied instead of being educated. As a result, a gang of bullies, "they," rules the school. Jill cries behind the gym at the start of The Silver Chair.

It is through a door in the school wall, which usually leads to the moor, that Jill and Eustace escape to Narnia by fleeing the bullies. At the end of the book, they return with Caspian rejuvenated and Aslan, who scare the bullies.

The headmistress is dismissed and becomes an inspector, then enters Parliament : a deliberate satire by Lewis of certain educational philosophies of his time.

L’Experimental Establishment is the mixed and “modern” school of Eustace and Jill. Little is taught there, and a gang of bullies, known as “Them,” is allowed to run wild. The Headmistress tries to understand the violent pupils instead of punishing them.

Experimental establishment

The mixed school where Eustace and Jill study is a place where disorder reigns and bullies terrorize others. It was by escaping this place that Eustace and Jill entered Narnia. Aslan changed the school and its rules to make it very pleasant.
