The Marsh-wiggles are tall and thin, with very long arms and legs, webbed hands and feet, a greenish complexion, and hair like reeds. They wear pointed hats with wide brims. They live alone in wigwams, fish for eels, and smoke a strange, heavy tobacco. They have a reputation for being pessimists, which Puddleglum finds exaggerated : he considers himself too cheerful for the others. Their seriousness hides great courage and unwavering loyalty. The French word touille-marais translates to Marsh-wiggle. The former site also described their barges and dwellings.

They wear pointed hats. Pessimistic by nature, they are nonetheless utterly loyal.
