The talking bears are powerful, a little slow, and fond of food. In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the three stout bears join Caspian’s council. The eldest claims the traditional right to be Marshal of the Lists during the duel between Peter and Miraz. In The Last Battle, an old bear is one of the Narnian creatures who are tricked into thinking they are seeing Aslan. Their good-natured nature adds humor to the war scenes.

The three Fat Bears have the right to judge royal duels.
